On a sunny May Friday afternoon we were delighted to welcome representatives from three very worthwhile charities; The Wexford Children’s Diabetes Clinic, The Special Care Baby Unit care of Friends of Wexford General Hospital and The RNLI, to converge at the new state of the art RNLI Lifeboat Station on the Quay in Wexford.

Each of the charities received an amazing boost to their funds to the tune of €12,890 each.

We would like to say a massive thanks to you our DoneDealers for all of the ads placed during the month of April. The 10% contribution from each ad placed means that we are able to make a real difference to these three deserving organisations.

Ben Cowley is a Frontend Developer and chose to lend his support to the RNLI and in particular to the stations of Wexford, Rosslare and Kilmore, which serve us here in the South East of the country.

The RNLI currently operate a total of 59 lifeboats from the 45 stations in the Republic and Northern Ireland.  Different classes of lifeboat are needed for various locations, depending on geographical features, the kind of rescue work that the station is asked to do and the cover provided by neighbouring stations.

Speaking at the cheque presentation:

Speaking on behalf of RNLI, Pauline McGann, RNLI Community Fundraising Manager, said: “Last year, RNLI lifeboats in Ireland launched 1,136 times rescuing 1,649 people with 440 of those services being carried out in the dark. Our volunteer lifeboat crew members are willing to drop everything to go and save lives at sea when their pagers beep. Whether it’s volunteering their time, raising money or supporting us in other ways, the RNLI relies on the public’s generosity to save lives at sea. We couldn’t do it without those people and it’s for that reason we are so grateful to DoneDeal for its generous donation which will enable our crews to continue to do what they do best, and help those who find themselves in difficulty at sea.”

Commenting on the donation, Deirdre Bowers of Wexford Children’s Diabetes Clinic, said: “We would like to extend our thanks to DoneDeal for considering us as a charity to receive a donation. When it comes to diabetes if we can give our newly diagnosed children and their families a good start with education and ongoing support, they can cope extremely well.  Having access to these funds will enable us to provide families with skills needed to manage diabetes successfully.”

Dr. Muhammed Azam, Consultant Pediatrician at The Special Care Baby Unit said: “The Special Care Baby Unit is extremely privileged and grateful to be considered for a donation from DoneDeal. The donations made to the various charities by DoneDeal to date has made the impossible possible for the many charity organisations that they have donated to and we are very appreciative of their consideration.”

“On behalf of DoneDeal, we are delighted to support another three worthy charities and the amazing work they do across Ireland. To date, DoneDeal has raised an amazing total of 1,378,965 for various charities across the country.”

Agnes Swaby, Marketing Manager at DoneDeal.
