Win a year’s supply of Icecream!

by Donna in category Competitions

Click to see Featherbed Farm websiteYou WILL have a Happy Summer with DoneDeal and Featherbed Farm Luxury Icecream.

Here in Ireland, sometimes summer is more of a feeling than a season, more imaginary than actual reality.

Like your Mammy used to say to you when you were trapped in the caravan for the 4th day in a row with no telly and just the noise of torrential rain on the roof to sing along to – “Make your own fun!” We can make our own summer, using the things that bring summer to mind.

Just close your eyes and think summer – what pops into your mind?

Email the very first thing you think of to us here at competitions@donedeal.ie by 19th August

Include your full name and postal address and contact phone number to make sure we can contact you!

You could win a year’s supply of yummy of ice cream from the lovely people at Featherbed Farm and a handy kit to throw your own beach party (which may not actually involve any beach).

There are 5 runner up prizes of beach party goodie bags to be won too.  :-)

The winner and runners up will be picked at random and announced on the Blog on Monday 20th August 2012 so get your entry in!

As a child going to Rossbeigh beach, crowded with families, check blankets, picnics, men with handkerchiefs on their heads listening to the football on the radio, games in the sea, donkey rides and then the big one being given money to go up to the shop and get a 99. Yeah those were the days mmmmmmmm

My friend and I going for massive long cycles on our cheap bikes only to be rewarded with a film of sweat over our bodies and a sense of triumph that we had actually completed the journey.

Jumping on the freshly baled hay and the Farmer chasing us away, picnics on the beach and the yearly field for the parish. Those were the days lots of fun and nobody harming anybody when the sun seemed to shine everyday.

Driving to the beach in Dad’s old Morris Minor. Running up n down the beach with the sand under my bare feet, little plastic bucket n spade banging off my (then) skinny little thigh. Waiting with big expectant eyes and bated breath as Dad rattled the change in his pocket to get us all Ice Cream. Aaaaah that first cold lick BLISS. Life was so much simpler then and the weather was actually sunny. Clearly not today or yesterday we’re talkin about, he he!!

Well Summer is here or is it. Ireland is a strange place but we love it .Summer is wet yes very wet but we still love the old land of creaming making cows for a lovely wet cold Featherbed icecream. We love the heat dont get much of it but we love it anyway.Seating at home in our nice warm homes looking out at the green field to feed our great cows to make our icecream dreaming of floating in the clouds of cotton scoops of chocolate and strawberry .This reminds me of Ireland in the summer what more could you want or ever need……

Sharing a rug on banna beach while mum poured the tea and we the kids had plastic “ponnies” filledwith lemonade or orange. The smell and taste of egg sandwiches and the feeling of being sunburnt as we gulped our food before we rushed headlong into the sea to enjoy another swim before the hackney driver arrived to drive us home again. We didn’t realise it then but “we were happy”

Through the long lovely lush grass in the fields, in the warmth of the evening sun, making hideouts and searching for wild strawberries, fraughans and blackberries, the telltale stains on our lips and the lingering sweetness, long after summer was gone….
