Given the number of dogs in Local Authority pounds and rescue centers across Ireland seeking adoption, we have decided at this time not to allow any new advertisements of dogs for stud or bitches in season/heat.

DoneDeal and the DoneDeal Foundation PetAware Project is committed to promoting adoption over purchase of dogs as well as the benefits of spay and neutering of companion animals in order to promote responsible pet ownership and reduce the burden of pet over population in Ireland. In line with this we have revised our Dog Policy and will no longer allow the advertisement of stud dogs or bitches in season on the DoneDeal website.

Figures from the Department of the Environment show that 5244 dogs were put down in pounds across the country in 2010, you can read more on these figures here: Stray & Unwanted Dogs 2010

We have updated this policy from Wednesday April 11th. The changes will take some time to implement so any ads published before this date will have to expire after the two months they paid for.
