Simon’s Month

by Fred in category Charity
Simon & DoneDeal

Simon & DoneDeal

February is Simon’s month on DoneDeal. For each ad we give 30 cent to Simon Community, to help them with their fantastic work.

We met up with Chris and Annette from South East Simon Community a few days ago. They told us about all the great work they do to help people who risk becoming homeless.

Simon Community gives out free food packs to make sure people do not have to spend their last pennies on food. And they are planning to expand this great service all over the South East over the next few months.

We hope we can help Simon with their very charitable work. You can read more about why people become homeless on the Simon site.

What do you think about this idea? Do you like it? What can we do to make it better? Please let us know by filling in the comments below.

    Great stuff guys,

just goes to show you can make money and be generous at the same time. If only our government ran our country like you run this site. Im already a dedicated user but this just shows that im spending my money on the right site. Well done to the simon community for all their work also.

Best of luck all and well done on your generosity.

Why are you only doing this for February, is it because its the shortest month of the year?

Why dont you do it all year round?

Hi John, thanks for the feedback. This is the first time we do this activity, and we hope to repeat it frequently in the future.

There wasn’t any mean spirit that put this event in February. We started planning the whole thing during the Christmas break, and therefore it was launched in February. Hope that is OK?

Think of this month as a pilot test. We need to learn what works well, what we need to improve, etc. Once we know more we will run this activity as frequently as ever possible.

Why is this guy not appreciating the work your doing, I think what your doing is fantastic even if you done if for a day. Carry on when you can and please dont stop when do you. Help is something were charity is not getting much these days with the credit crunch etc… Every little is a LOT

        Thanks, AJ

John, seriously whats with the negativity????? remember feb is only around 2 days shorter than most months(BIG DEAL) you should be praising a company doing this during times that are financially difficult for all businesses, why do people always have to give out when someone does something for the better!!!

WELL DONE DONE DEAL EVEN IF YOU DO THIS FOR ONE HOUR A YEAR ITS A FANTASTIC IDEA!!!!

      best wishes

        John,

        What a sour comment.

I’m guessing your contribution to scoiety ends with unconstructive begrudgery.

Well done Fred and all at Donedeal

    Well done Fred.

Quite staggering that some people would make sniping comments at such a generous offer. The mind boggles sometimes.

I’m sure Simon Community are absolutely thrilled and no doubt it will be a huge success for them.

John, People like you make this country sour. Done Deal did not have to do this, it is their business and fair play to ye for having a great site.

Every little helps for donating money.

Ya can bet John donates nothing to anyone.. All for himself

Again, well done to all at Done Deal

Hey everyone, we’re delighted with Fred, Ger and the team’s generousity. South East Simon Community gets 30% of the funding we need to deliver services from statutory services. Done Deal’s funding support will enable us to roll out our food distribution service to Wexford & South Tipperary by late summer. This mean’s our community will be offering supported advocacy, outreach and food distribution in Wexford. The same is offered in South Tipperary with Re-settlement, Tenancy Support and Supported Housing too.
Thank you to everyone for supporting this site and our work too! Do visit our web site to see what we get up to!
    Have fun,
    Chris

Fair play Fred and Geraldine – WOW – a very generous thing to do!

John – Thats 10% of gross income not 10% of net profit – a big difference. They guys have salaries, bills etc to pay out of the remainder – for a small local based business to do that is amazing bordering on the crazy.

Ok Ok I’ll admit when I wrote that comment I did have my begrudging hat on.

But I am sick of SOME companies giving X amount to charity in order to increase their sales by X multiplied by Y.

I HOPE DoneDeal arent trying to swing the same racket and if it is a genuine concern and ongoing COMMITMENT to Simon Community then fair play to them.

I wasnt just sniping at someone for doing something good I wanted to make sure its not just another PR excersise and that there is genuine commitment.

I think you need a holiday or take a break from the big smoke for a while John!

John, you are the most cynical man in Ireland and that is in a nation of begrudgers and cynics.

Even when you try and back track you end up taking another pot shot!! As Brian suggests, time to take a holiday and get a bit of perspective.

Hey enough of the John bashing he obviously just has some trust issues.

I think what donedeal are doing is great but I can see how someone has trust issues with a site that guarentee a 3 euro charge which ends up costing 4.50
That really caught me out one week.

Hi Alex, sorry about the confusion caused by this. Calls from most land lines cost €3, calls from mobiles cost more as your phone company adds a ‘network charge’. You can see information about this on our premium rate fees page.

Hi Emer thanks for the reply.

I found out about the extra charge afterwards.

My question is why do you “guarentee” 3 euro when you know most people are going to pay alot more than that?

        February 19, 2010 at 12:29 pm

        Hi Alex,
Sorry for not getting back sooner. Placing your ad with a credit card or from most land lines will cost no more than 3 euro. When you go to place an ad it is stated that calls from mobiles may cost more and to check with your network. We do not receive any more than 3 euro. It is a network charge payable to your network provider, something we have no control over.

    Hi John,
can I invite you to come down to our pilot scheme in Waterford and have a look at what the Done Deal team are going to make possible in two other counties?
You’d be very welcome. This service is on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at Unit 32, Johnstown Industrial Estate, Johnstown, Waterford. it runs between 2 and 4 pm.

Delighted! If more did what ye are doing Ireland would soon be able to provide a lot of different services for lots of different groups! Gud job :)

  11. Alex says:
    February 21, 2010 at 7:18 pm

I appreciate you have no control over network charges but you do know that the charges exist and how much exactly they will charge.

    So my two questions are
    1. Why do you ask people to contact their mobile networks to find out charges when you know full well how much people will be charged.

    2. Why do you “Guarentee” a 3 euro charge when that wont apply to a large number of your customers?

By the way well done supporting the Simon Community!
