Naughty or Nice?

by ger in category Competitions, News & Awards

Santa has a Dilemma – can you help?

Santa

Help Santa

Santa was going through the Soggybottoms Xmas list. Mrs Soggybottom, who is always very nice, gets jewellery, while Mr Soggybottom has been a little naughty this year. He never got around to do all the house repairs so he gets a bench drill to encourage him. The twins have asked for video games, while Dilbert wants a computer, which he’ll probably just take apart!

Santa calculated that all of these things cost €1,000 new. Unfortunately Santa’s elves went on a spa weekend blowing most of the Xmas money! Santa loves DoneDeal and knows he can get all of these items for €500 from the web site.

To help Santa decide what to do, he’d love to hear your comments/stories/anecdotes/poems of why you would buy second hand!

The best story gets to stay two nights in a top hotel in Sligo, for two adult and two kids. You also get to visit Santa town in Sligo Folk Park.

Please HELP Santa!

Santa’s Little Helper: We are delighted that Santa was so touched by Nancy Levaro’s story, from Ballysheedy in Co. Limerick, that he is sending Nancy and her family to Sligo for a couple of days, and they even get to visit him in the Sligo Folk Park. Read Nancy’s story for a wonderful Christmas tale!

Don’t apologize for giving second hand stuff! Making someone feel special is an important part of gift giving.

It does not matter if the gift comes straight from the shop or if it has a different background.

My most memorable Xmas present is not one I got but one given to my brother. Way before the Celtic tiger was even a cub my parents tried very hard to give us the gifts we wanted. I arrived home from school a few days before Xmas only to find both my parents in the bathroom with a very old bicycle frame they bought second hand in the bath and they were scrubbing it clean. When the bath water was completely mucked up, the bicycle was promptly dried and then the painting began. It was pained blue and white. Finally, a fantastic shiny new bike emerged and needless to say my brother spent Xmas day cruising around very proudly on his “new” bike – What’s second hand to one person is new to another!

You can get secondhand stuff that looks brand new, so there’s no problem, and it’s the thought that counts.

every child look forward to seeing santa every chrismas period.the gift is quite secondary.
second hand or new gift doesn’t really matter to children,or any one,the magnanimity behind the gesture counts.more also all that matters to any kid is seeing santa.even my twins who are barely 2yrs. old, there mother make them obey instructions by telling them it is only when they are good they will be taken to see santa.they are not bordered about the gifts, that only comes with the pack.so to save time and money santa should go on .shopping

I think it is just such a waste of money to buy brand new things.
Second hand things are just as good as new things, but they just have been used a few times before.
    They are also alot cheaper.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

When I was about five, I was aloud to stay up very late two days before Christmas to watch my mom wrap gifts for my Dad and Older Brothers. She explained that Santa didn´t have room for gifts in his sleigh if you are over 12 years old, so your mommy buys the gifts. I was so fasinated how my mom expertly wrapped the paper around the boxes and folded the corners, so there was no ragged edges. She would use snowflake stickers on the seams of paper to hold them neatly together. and then tie the ribbon and curl the ends with a scissor. I thougt it was magical. and I too wanted to wrap gifts. So I went into my oldest brothers room, who was away at college and took his favorite books and comics, and wrapped them for him and my other brothers. I did this for at least three years. They were not done as nicely as my moms but every year my bothers would give me lots of hugs and tell me how my second hand gifts were their favorite.

    A whiffin’, sniffin’ gift,

    Especially for you.

    It’s from "Secret Santa"

    Bet you can’t guess who!

    Winkin’, blinkin, just don’t nod.

This gift is for your eyes.

    It’s from Secret Santa too,

    By now, that’s no surprise.

Jingle, jangle, what do I hear?

    It’s not a reindeer sleigh–

    It must be Secret Santa,

    Hurrying on his way.

    Yummy, yummy, tummy tingling.

    A tasty, tempting treat.

    Won’t you be surprised

    When we finally meet!

This final gift–for the sense of touch–

    Might be a bit surprising.

I’m sure you know just who I am,

    Without realizing.

I always recycled the childrens toys. When my daughter was 20 months old we painted the pram she got the year before and put new wheels on it. The doll was from our older child. I made new clothes for it. She was so thrilled with it. We also gave her a computer when she was 10yrs that had been her brothers and no one was allowed use it. We got a new stand for it and cleaned it up. She was over the moon. I do not call things second hand they are items that have been tried and tested and the owner wants others to enjoy them as much as they did!!

Poor ole Santa is feeling blue the elf’s have gone astray.
They had a day out in a spa and blew half Santa’s cash away.
€500 is all that’s left and Santa is full of woe.
What will I do where will I go so many things to buy.
Christmas Eve is almost here and tears fill up in his eyes.

So on the web and to donedeal to search the whole site through.
Santa’s now feeling great that chased away the blues.

    A conversation on Christmas Eve.

A cosy sitting room in the North Pole linked to the outside world by a laptop.

Santa (in despair): The elves have blown the budget, my Christmas Budget is half gone. Where will I find a bench drill, video games, jewellery and a computer for Mr and Mrs. Soggybottoms and their three children? Oh, What a dilemma!!!

Mrs. Claus, a quick search of the internet should lead you to the answers. Draw up a list quick and please, my darling.

Mrs. Claus: Slow down dear, you’ll give yourself a heart attack. Donedeal.ie will indeed have all the items in excellent condition at brilliant prices. Now, look, dear, a top of the range bench drill in Wexford, a lovely earring set in Galway, an unwanted computer in Westmeath and low and behold video games in Cork.

Santa (jumping around the room): Second hand, second hand, Thank you God for Second Hand
But are they available, can we get them in time and are they in good nick , excuse the pun hehe.

Mrs. Claus: Sure Donedeal.ie have photographs of all items. Would you look at the beautiful detail around the diamond in the earring for just €150, hardly a dent in your budget and a fraction of the cost in a jewellery shop, all of which are closed now anyway. Now I can contact the seller in Galway by email and phone, which will I do, dear?

Santa: Praise the Lord. Do both we’re in a hurry. I’ll go and get the reindeers ready. Round up the sellers and we’ll collect the items in between deliveries tonight. The sellers will be delighted with their Christmas Eve windfall.

Mrs. Claus: It’s a Donedeal, darling. All your worries are over. Enjoy your night out.

Santa: Come here for a Christmas kiss. I couldn’t manage without you and your laptop and Donedeal.ie……..(kissing sounds in the darkness)

A conversation on Christmas Eve continued

Oh no said Mrs Clause I phoned that place in Wexford and Westmeath I even phoned Cork but thanks to donedeal they have already gone.
Santa Clause’ That site is just unreal the prices just great I think I’m having a stroke as he faints on his plate.
Mrs Clause’ Call the elves in quickly Santa is gone to bits donedeal has sold everything that he was interested in.
The Elves’ what a dilemma a mess we put you in.
Mrs Claus’ Yes you have my dears their may be a lot of happy people on donedeal unfortunately for Santa he is blooming not.
Mrs Clause’ Christmas is in three weeks and not a thing to show oh my god I really do not know how we will save Christmas when things just go and go amazing and so quickly with that place called donedeal.
The elves manage to bring Santa around still in shock.
Santa’ Well that’s that so we have the day off now thanks to donedeal and the elves.
Santa’ the elves blew the budget and donedeal have sold everything that was advertised.
Santa and Mrs Clause Well now we are older and wiser we will just have to start looking earlier for next years bargains.
    Merry Christmas All
